BFGoodrich Off-Road Driving
BFGoodrich has a rich history in off-road driving. Their teams hold many podiums including most recently the 40th-edition of the Dakar which was won by Peugeot Sport/BFGoodrich®’s Carlos Sainz and his co-driver Lucas Cruz. The Spaniards’ second win on the celebrated cross-country rally spearheaded a one-two-three finish for BFGoodrich®.
OFF-ROAD DRIVING
If you’re going to learn, learn from the experts. BFGoodrich® Tires has 27 SCORE Baja 1000 wins and 70 overall four-wheel SCORE Desert Race Titles. Off-road driving can be fun, especially when it’s intentional. But, it’s an entirely different kind of driving altogether. We recommend you understand the basic techniques, so you don’t get stuck in a precarious situation.
SAND, SNOW AND MUD
- Deflate your tires a bit to increase your tire footprint for better traction.
- Use steady momentum all the way through.
- In sand and snow, if your wheels start to spin, ease off the gas a little to let the tires slow down and regain traction. In mud maintain some wheel spin to help clear mud from the drive tires.
ROCKS, LOGS AND DITCHES
- Approach obstacles at an angle, so that only one tire engages, leaving the other three tires on solid ground for traction.
- To protect the fragile components on the underside of your vehicle, it’s best to drive over an obstacle by placing one tire on it, then gently driving over it.
HILLS
- Approach the hill straight on, so the weight is distributed equally, providing equal traction to all four tires.
- Use as high a gear as the vehicle will handle comfortably on the hill. If the gear is too low, you will spin the tires. If it’s too high, you won’t have enough power.
- Always prepare for a failed climb and have an escape plan.

MANEJANDO OFF-ROAD
Es comun decir que si vas a aprender, aprende de un experto. BFGoodrich® Tires tiene 27 primer lugar en el SCORE Baja 1000 wins y 70 titulos en general con SCORE Desert Race. Manejar Off-road puede ser muy divertido, especialmente cuando es practicado intencionalmente. Pero es un estilo de manejar completamente diferente. Les recomenadamos entender las tecnicas basicas para evitar que tu vehiculo se quede atascado en una situacion precaria.
ARENA, NIEVE Y BARRO.
- Desinfla tu llanta un poco para permitir mejor traccion.
- Manten un momentum permanente por todo el camino.
- En la arena y nieve si tus llantas comienzan a patinar, suelta el acelerador hasta que sientas que has recuperado la tracción. En el barro un poco de patinar puede ayudar a liberar el barro que se puede quedar atascado en las ranuras de las llantas.
PIEDRAS, TRONCOS Y CUNETAS
- Acércate al obstáculo en ángulo, así solo uno de las llantas pierde tracción y las otras 3 quedan en el camino con toda la tracción.
- Para proteger componentes frágiles en la parte inferior de tu vehículo, es preferible subir obstáculos primero colocando una llanta encima de la piedra y luego desplazar el vehículo con gentileza.
COLINAS
1. Acerca la colina con el vehículo completamente derecho para que el peso del vehículo este distribuido equitativamente y así la tracción sea igual en las cuatro llantas.
2. Poner el transfer case en un engranaje alto, para maniobrar más fácilmente en la subida. Un engranaje muy bajo causara que las llantas patinen y que el tren motriz no tenga suficiente torque.
3. Siempre esta preparado para que el carro no pueda con la subida y ten un plan en caso de que se necesite salir de el vehículo.
